How to Make Pompompurin out of Buttercream

Creating a Pompompurin character out of buttercream is a fun and rewarding project for any cupcake decorator. Follow these step-by-step instructions to bring this adorable Sanrio character to life on your cupcakes!
Ingredients and Tools:
- Buttercream Icing: About 4 cups (divided into different colors)
- Gel Food Coloring: Yellow, Brown, Black
- Piping Bags: At least three, fitted with different tips
- Piping Tips: Round tip #1, Round tip #12
- Ice cream Scoop 42 mL / medium ice cream scoop
- Spatula: For smoothing
- Your favorite Cake recipe: Your choice of flavor
- Muffin Thins
- Silicone Baking Cups
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Prepare your Cupcake:
- Preheat oven at 350 F
- Pour prepared batter into muffin tin lined with silicone baking cups and bake for 10 to 15 mins
Prepare Your Buttercream:
- Divide your buttercream into three portions.
- Tint 3 cups of buttercream yellow for Pompompurin’s body.
- Tint a small portion brown for the eyes, snout, hat and details, (or use cocoa powder)
Pompompurin's Body:
- Place 1 cup of room temperature yellow buttercream into a pipping bag fitted with round tip#12 and set aside.
- Chill remaining buttercream until its the same texture as ice cream.
- Scoop out some of the chilled yellow buttercream. Make sure buttercream is tightly packed in the scoop.
- Scrape off any excess buttercream
- Place a scoop of yellow buttercream on top of the cupcake
- Smooth out cracks with a spatula
Ears and Paws:
- Use the Yellow room temp buttercream with round tip#20 to pipe long ears on the side of pompompurin's head and 2 dots in front for paws.
Add Details:
- Use the brown buttercream with a round tip (#2) to pipe the eyes, snout, and mouth.
- Replace the tip#2 with a clean tip#12. On the top of Pompompurin's head place the tip half a centimetre above its head and pipe out a tiny barret the shape of small chocolate wafer.

- Practice Piping: If you’re new to piping, practice on a piece of parchment paper before working on the cake.
- Keep It Cool: Buttercream can soften quickly, so keep your buttercream cool while working.
